BET Founder Robert Johnson seemingly indicated that he may vote to re-elect President Donald Trump in the upcoming general election. During an interview on CNBC's Squawk Box, Johnson argued in favor of President Donald Trump's economic record over former Vice President Joe Biden's.
“Where I come out as a businessman, I will take the devil I know over the devil I don’t know any time of the week,” Johnson said.
"I know what President Trump has done and what he’s said he will do. I don’t know what Vice President Biden has said he will do other than masks, listen to the scientists."
As the interview went on, the businessman dug deeper into his coded support of the sitting President. He pointed towards his unfamiliarity with Biden as a reason to support Trump instead.
"I would rather know who I’m going to deal with in the White House. I’m going to know what regulatory decisions they’re going to make, what fiscal policy decisions, what monetary policies they’re going to make than to be taking a chance, particularly when you have the turbulence of a pandemic,” he said.
Johnson previously criticized Biden for comments he made during an appearance at The Breakfast Club.
"You ain't Black if you vote for Trump," the former Vice President said to Charlamagne Tha God, Angela Yee and DJ Envy.
After learning of Biden's statements, Johnson chastised the former Vice President. He said that Biden "should spend the rest of his campaign apologizing to every black person he meets."
"Vice President Biden’s statement today represents the arrogant and out-of-touch attitude of a paternalistic white candidate who has the audacity to tell black people, the descendants of slaves, that they are not black unless they vote for him," he added.
Despite his comments, Johnson has stated that he will stand behind either candidate.
"I'm not endorsing anybody."
