Pastor Greg Laurie of Harvest Christian Fellowship has tested positive for COVID-19 after joining Vice President Mike Pence at a march near the Lincoln Memorial last month. Laurie then joined Vice President Mike Pence, President Donald Trump and a number of other politicians at the Rose Garden for an event regarding U.S. Supreme Court nominee Amy Coney Barrett.
Laurie is the latest of many who have tested positive for COVID-19 after attending the Rose Garden event. Most notably, President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump tested positive on Thursday. Senators Thom Tillis and Mike Lee have also tested positive for COVID-19 after attending the ceremony.
Beyond the Rose Garden celebration, a number of other White House affiliates have tested positive for the virus. Senior Adviser Stephen Miller, Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany and Republican National Convention Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel have all contracted COVID-19 over the past week.
In spite of the recent outbreak, Vice President Mike Pence has reportedly tested negative for COVID-19. He is currently in Salt Lake City, Utah preparing for the Vice Presidential Debate between himself and Sen. Kamala Harris. Harris has also reportedly tested negative for the virus. However, Harris has taken extra precautions to protect herself and others from the virus during the debate. As a result, she will participate in tonight's event with a plexiglass shield. Initially, Pence's staff objected to the shield, but ultimately agreed to use one.
"Most importantly the Vice President is looking forward to having a conversation about the marked shift left that Joe Biden wants to take this country, so we are not going to let a barrier prevent the Vice President from making the case for four more years of Donald Trump," Pence's staff stated.
Despite a multitude of recent positive COVID-19 tests from those who have been in close contact with the Vice President, the debate will move forward as scheduled at 9 p.m. on October 7 in Salt Lake City.
