During an interview with Forbes, Los Angeles Lakers Forward Avery Bradley shared that he and his wife, Ashley, donated $30,000 in supplies to the WNBA bubble. The Bradleys were focused on supporting the working mothers who were adapting to a unique work environment while continuing to raise their children.
“One thing that was really important was the moms, being able to make sure their essential needs were taken care of,” Bradley told Forbes.
“They don’t make as much, obviously, and I wanted to see if I could be of service to them to be able to assist in any way I could so they could focus on just basketball.”
Together, the couple was able to donate outdoor games, art supplies, gaming consoles and board games. The Los Angeles Lakers forward was also able donate support animals, karaoke machines and a bounce house.
“Avery Bradley, underscoring the importance of family time, surprised WNBA players with loads of indoor and outdoor games and other special touches that enriched the experiences of player-moms and their little ones,” Women's National Basketball Player Association President Terri Jackson said.
Bradley was unable to participate in the NBA's bubble because of COVID-19 related concerns. His 6-year-old son, Liam, has had issues recovering from respiratory illnesses and he did not want to put his son at an increased risk of catching the coronavirus. However, he is glad that he was able to make an impact on basketball while keeping his family safe.
“I just wanted to let them know that I care,” he said.
“It’s just about doing the right thing and having us all understand that we’re all playing our part to help one another.”
