Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron has announced that he will travel with armed security through the end of the year. The Government Contract Review Committee approved Cameron's request for security because he has received "several serious, credible threats to the Attorney General's health, welfare, and, safety."
After learning of the first credible threats, officials from the Department of Criminal Investigations requested help from state and local police, but the two sides were unable to reach an agreement. Government officials have now sought outside help to secure security for the state attorney general. The security contract will be made retroactive from August 26 through December 31 for a total of $300,000.
"Our office has received detailed threats against the Attorney General, his wife, and members of his family," Cameron's office stated.
"The Attorney General's protective detail determined that given the credibility of such threats, additional personnel and resources were needed to provide the appropriate level of security."
In recent weeks, Cameron has come under fire for his handling of the criminal case regarding the death of Breonna Taylor. Criticisms of Cameron have ranged from local activists in Louisville to Megan Thee Stallion on Saturday Night Live. Under his watch, no criminal charges were filed in direct connection to the death of Breonna Taylor. Instead, former officer Brett Hankinson was charged for firing shots in to Taylor's neighbors apartments. He has since unveiled the audio recordings of the grand jury proceedings and two unnamed jurors have stepped forward requesting to make statements regarding the matter. Not to mention, Breonna Taylor's boyfriend, Kenneth Walker, has also made a number of public statements regarding what he witnessed the night his girlfriend was killed. As a result, Taylor's family attorneys have stepped forward to request a new case with a new prosecutor.
