Louisiana State University Wide Receiver Koy Moore detailed a horrific police encounter that he endured near campus. Moore explained that officers stopped him and searched for a firearm and illegal substances despite his continuous assertions that he did not have a gun.
"I was violated numerous times even as going as far as trying to unzip my pants in search of a weapon that I repeatedly told them I did not have," Moore said.
The talented wide receiver was able to get home after officers did not find any weapons or drugs as he told them they wouldn't. Moore noted that he was only able to get home after he told officers that he was a member of the LSU football team.
"As some celebrate the election of a new president, [please] understand the real problem has not changed," Moore wrote on social media.
"If I didn't tell those incompetent officers that I was a LSU football player there's no telling if I would've been here to tell the story! Yesterday wasn't a victory for America it was only a distraction."
After posting the details of his encounter, university officials and the Baton Rouge Police Department have announced that there is an investigation regarding the matter.
"We appreciate Mr. Moore bringing this incident to our attention," Baton Rouge Police Chief Murphy Paul said.
"As in every case, we will be collecting all available evidence and conducting interviews. Accountability and transparency are critical in building trust with the community. I pledge a thorough investigation into this complaint."
Thus far, three officers have been suspended. Despite the investigation and suspensions, LSU Head Coach Ed Orgeron refused to condemn the actions of the officers. Instead, he asked for all to "come together."
"We have to listen, learn and come together to combat social injustice and racism if we are to create a safer and more equitable society for all people," he said.
Orgeron and Moore will have the week off while this matter is investigated. The team's upcoming game against the Alabama Crimson Tide has been postponed due to a spike in confirmed COVID-19 cases within the LSU locker room.
