President Donald Trump has been questioning the legitimacy of the most recent election and former President Barack Obama is not here for it at all. During an appearance on 60 Minutes, the 44th President said that Trump's election fraud claims could lead the country down a "dangerous path." He later added that the President's claims are motivated by his personal feelings about losing the election rather than fact.
"They appear to be motivated, in part, because the president doesn't like to lose and never admits loss," Obama said.
As the interview went on, Obama called out Trump's Republican colleagues. In recent weeks, Sen. Mitch McConnell, Kentucky State Attorney General Daniel Cameron and other high-profile public officials have refused to condemn the President's fraud claims.
"I'm more troubled by the fact that other Republican officials who clearly know better are going along with this, are humoring him in this fashion," he said.
"It is one more step in delegitimizing not just the incoming Biden administration, but democracy generally. And that's a dangerous path."
Trump's claims of voter fraud and election interference are further disproven by the Department of Homeland Security.
“The November 3rd election was the most secure in American history. Right now, across the country, election officials are reviewing and double checking the entire election process prior to finalizing the result," the department stated.
“While we know there are many unfounded claims and opportunities for misinformation about the process of our elections, we can assure you we have the utmost confidence in the security and integrity of our elections, and you should too. When you have questions, turn to elections officials as trusted voices as they administer elections.”
Still, the President refuses to pull back on his voter fraud claims. As of now, he has yet to concede the election to President-Elect Joe Biden.
Barack Obama's most recent appearance on 60 Minutes is set to air in its entirety on November 15.
