Independent Autopsy Report Confirms Quawan Charles Died By Drowning

The family of Quawan “Bobby” Charles is still searching for answers to the many questions surrounding his death. The Baldwin, Louisiana teen was reported missing on October 30 and was discovered deceased a few days later in a sugar cane field 20 miles away in Iberia Parish.

An attorney representing Bobby’s family released phone recordings between Bobby’s mother and another parent who knows the family last seen with Bobby.

And while they uncovered some disturbing details about what could have possibly happened to him, what exactly happened and when remains unclear.

A preliminary autopsy report released by the Iberia Parish Coroner’s Office stated that Bobby died by drowning. The finding was troubling to the family and they immediately raised questions about which body of water he could have drowned.

The family ordered an independent autopsy to get access to answers. The new autopsy report conducted by American Forensics, confirms the original findings that Bobby could have died by “possible drowning.”

The report also says that there was “no sign of trauma or natural disease and that the body was undergoing decompositional changes upon arrival.”

Officials say that the official cause of death is still unknown and his death is being investigated as a homicide, according to a report by USA Today. A member of the medical examiner’s office said that a full report can take upwards of 12 weeks to complete.

The family, joined by dozens of local activists and community members organized a march on November 14 from the old Baldwin Police Department to the town’s city hall building about half a mile away.

They demanded transparency from the police in the investigation. Some of the 100 demonstrators at the march called for the Baldwin police chief and mayor to be removed as well as the Iberia Parish sheriff and coroner.

Bobby’s family say when they called to report him missing, authorities told them, “He’s probably at a football game.” No Amber Alert was issued for Bobby.

The Baldwin Sheriff’s department is investigating what happened in the days from Bobby’s disappearance to the day his body was found, stating the circumstances surrounding his death are “suspicious.”

In a November 14 press release, the Iberia Parish Sheriff Tommy Romero said, “I want to assure the public that I, and my team, are doing everything we can, and following every lead, to gather evidence into what happened in the untimely death of Quawan “Bobby” Charles.”

He added, “Any loss of life is a tragedy and that is especially true when it is a young person.”

Bobby Charles’ murder has gained national attention from celebrities and activists.
