Tennessee native Emory Pruitt has made history in the city of Atlanta, Georgia. At the age of 16, she has become the youngest student at Clark Atlanta University.
Pruitt enters the university as an early high school graduate. Earning a 3.7 GPA, she overcame racism and adversity en route to an early acceptance at the historically Black university. Topping off her incredible accomplishment, she soon learned that her brother, Elijah, would be attending the same university in the fall.
“It actually was the dedication and my family that pushed me each day,” she said.
“I should thank the people that doubted me; that just made me work even harder.”
Along with the rest of the student body, Pruitt is currently taking online classes due to the pandemic. She is no stranger to the virtual form as she took online classes while at Penn Foster High School. As a result, she has stepped into the university and made an impact immediately. Clark Atlanta University Dean of Admissions Lorri Saddler has already sang her praises.
“We are honored that this exceptional young woman chose Clark Atlanta University to continue her studies and we look forward to supporting her through all of her endeavors,” Saddler said.
“Ms. Pruitt has already accomplished so much in just 16 years and we know she’ll continue to build on her successes.”
Pruitt is well into her first semester of college and she is preparing for her first round of college exams. Despite the academic challenges ahead, she is not slowing down anytime soon.
