Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms was asked about President Donald Trump's recent feuds with top Republicans regarding election results and she did not hold back. During a recent interview with Anderson Cooper, she said that the President would "eat his own children" if he found it politically advantageous.
"He will eat his own children, I'm sure, if he found it prudent," she said of the President's recent comments toward his former political allies.
In recent weeks, Trump has refuted the results of the presidential election. To support his claims, he has falsely asserted that the election was marred by widespread fraud, suspicious ballot counting procedures and collusion. As a result, he has filed lawsuits in Pennsylvania, Michigan and several other key states disputing the results of the election. Not to mention, he has refused to meet with former Vice President Joe Biden or address him as President-Elect.
As the President has continued on his crusade, many Republicans have refused to criticize his comments despite the lack of evidence to support them. Sen. Mitch McConnell and Kentucky State Attorney General Daniel Cameron are just two of the many GOP members who have propped up Trump's fraudulent claims. However, a few members of his party have butted heads with him regarding his statements following the election. On the night of the election, former Republican governor Chris Christie said that there was no evidence to support his voter fraud claims.
"The idea of using the word 'fraud' being committed by people counting votes is wrong," Republican governor Ron DeSantis added.
Most recently, Trump has taken aim Georgia Governor Brian Kemp. After losing the state in a surprising fashion, Trump scrutinized a decree that Kemp signed to address signatures on mail-in ballots. Trump then falsely accused Kemp of supporting a practice that would bar election officials from verifying signatures on mail-in ballots.
"Wow! Governor Kemp will hopefully see the light before it is too late. Must finally take charge," the President tweeted after finding out that Kemp's approval ratings dropped following the election.
Trump's recent attacks on Kemp come as a surprise to many. In the days leading up to the election, the President attended a campaign rally alongside Kemp.
"He's now picking a fight with Brian Kemp...the Governor who he was closely allied with," Lance Bottoms said.
Despite Trump's claims, election officials in the state of Georgia are expected to deliver the results of a ballot recount later this afternoon. President-Elect Joe Biden is expected to hold his lead of more than 10,000 votes.
