Joe Biden has granted Lester Holt his first interview since being declared President-Elect earlier this month. The two last appeared on-air together in October for a town hall in Miami, Florida with potential voters. While the town hall did not result in a victory in the state of Florida, Biden did secure key wins in Pennsylvania, Ohio and Michigan. He also scored a major upset win in Georgia en route to a historic victory over President Donald Trump.
As the former Vice President steps in to office, he will make history. After running for President twice before, Biden will become the oldest President in U.S. history. His running mate, Kamala Harris, will also make history when she is sworn in on January 20, 2021. She will become the first Black or South Asian person to hold the title of Vice President. Harris will also become the first woman to be elected Vice President. Not to mention, she is the first graduate of a historically Black college or university to take the office.
Leading up to Inauguration Day, Biden and Harris have began to fill out their respective staffs. Biden has nominated Jake Sullivan as National Security Adviser, Avril Haines as National Intelligence Director, Alejandro Mayorkas as Secretary of Homeland Security, Ron Klain as Chief of Staff and Linda Thomas-Greenfield as U.N. Ambassador. Meanwhile, Harris has named Karine Jean-Pierre as her chief of staff.
