Seattle Nurse Selected To Serve On Biden-Harris COVID-19 Advisory Board

President-elect Joe Biden announced Saturday (November 28) additional members will join the pandemic advisory board to aid in his response to COVID-19 as he transitions to the White House.

Jane Hopkins, an immigrant from Sierra Leone, was selected to join the board, according to a report by KOMO News.

The other members added to the board serving with Hopkins include Dr. Jill Jim, a member of the Navajo Nation and Executive Director of the Navajo Nation Department of Health. Dr. David Michaels, an epidemiologist and professor at George Washington University will join the group.

“As COVID-19 surges across the country, I need a team advising me and a transition that offers diverse perspectives and viewpoints. Ms. Hopkins, Dr. Jim, and Dr. Michaels will strengthen the board’s work and help ensure that our COVID-19 planning will address inequities in health outcomes and the workforce,” Biden said in the announcement.

Hopkins has a nursing career that spans over two decades. She worked as a bedside nurse in Seattle, Washington at Harborview Medical Center and Snoqualmie Hospital for 12 years.

Hopkins is currently serving in the Executive Vice President role with SEIU Healthcare 1199 NW. She also serves on the Washington State’s COVID-task force and Safe Start Advisory Board.
