President-Elect Joe Biden has made a plea to the American public as the pandemic rages on. Biden has asked Americans to join him in 100 days of mask wearing beginning on Inauguration Day.
"Just 100 days to mask, not forever, 100 days. And I think we'll see a significant reduction," Biden said.
The President-Elect has began setting up his COVID-19 response team. Most notably, he has asked Dr. Anthony Fauci to remain in his role as Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. He is also asking Fauci to be his chief medical adviser.
In addition to instituting his 100-day mask challenge, Biden has said that he is willing to take the COVID-19 vaccine publicly. He joins former Presidents Barack Obama, Bill Clinton and George W. Bush by saying he would do so.
"People have lost faith in the ability of the vaccine to work. Already the numbers are really staggeringly low, and it matters what the president and vice president do," the President-Elect said.
The virus continues to ravage much of the country. December 2 proved to be the worst day of the pandemic yet. More than 2,800 people died, nearly 200,000 tested positive and more than 100,000 people were hospitalized. Unfortunately, the pandemic is expected to get worse before it gets better.
Luckily, vaccines could reportedly begin being distributed before Christmas. Pfizer and Moderna hope to distribute more than 20 million doses of their vaccine before Christmas.
