Georgia Senator Kelly Loeffler refused to accept reality as she debated Rev. Raphael Warnock on Sunday evening. During the course of the contentious encounter, Loeffler refused to acknowledge that Joe Biden had earned the title of President-Elect. Instead, she said that President Donald Trump was pursuing “every legal recourse" in regards to the recent election.
Multiple outlets including NBC, ABC, CNN and CBS have named Biden as the President-Election. The Associated Press has projected Biden to finish the race with 306 electoral votes and Trump with 232 votes. States that the President has accused of engaging in voter fraud like Michigan, Georgia and Pennsylvania have stood firm in defending their election results.
"The People have spoken," U.S. District Court Judge Linda Parker of Michigan's Eastern District said.
"Any attempt by the legislature to retroactively change that process for the November 3rd election would be unconstitutional and immediately enjoined by the courts, resulting in a long legal dispute and no short-term resolution," Governor Brian Kemp and Lieutenant Governor Geoff Duncan added.
Rev. Warnock treaded in the opposite direction. During the debate, he criticized Loeffler for “casting doubt” on a legitimate election. He also said that Loeffler is simply working to appease Trump and his administration.
“The people have spoken on the presidential election, and they’re waiting on their senator to be focused on them, not the person in the White House,” he said.
Warnock and Loeffler are at the center of one of two Senate run-off elections in the state of Georgia. In the other race, Jon Ossoff and and David Perdue will face off. Together, the pair of races will determine the balance of power in the Senate as Biden takes office. Voters will take to the booth on January 5 to voice their opinions.
