A recent video has shown a white police officer kneeling on the back of a Black man at the corner of East 38th Street and Chicago Avenue in Minneapolis, also known as George Floyd Square.
The incident in question took place on December 4. Reports indicate that a dozen cars and nearly 20 uniformed police officers arrived after receiving calls about a "non-violent" offense. After arriving, video shows an officer apprehending a Black man on the ground. Soon thereafter, an officer points to a man in a crowd before charging towards him. Bystanders attempt to intervene, but he ultimately puts the man on the ground. The officer then presses his knee against the man's back before detaining him.
“On the evening of December 4th at 7:45 pm, Minneapolis Police responded to an armed carjacking,” a Minneapolis Police Department spokesperson reportedly said.
“Officers encountered individuals and force was used. That use of force is under review by the Office of Police Conduct Review (OPCR).”

This new arrives six months after the death of George Floyd. Tragically, Floyd died after a police encounter in which former officer Derek Chauvin pressed his knee against his body for more than eight minutes. Video of the incident was shared across the world, igniting a social media movement unlike any the world has seen.
In the wake of his death, the four officers involved in his arrest have been charged, the intersection at which he was killed was renamed in his honor and several scholarships have been named after him. Most recently, Lil' Baby headed out to host a birthday party for Floyd's young daughter.
In the city's most recent case, it is unclear if the Minneapolis Police Department will hand down discipline for the officers involved. Furthermore, it is unclear if the two men who were apprehended will press charges.
