A video posted by Grammy-winning musician Keyon Harrold shows a white woman harassing his teenage son and accusing him of stealing her cell phone.
Harrold's video shows him and his song walking through the lobby of the Arlo Hotel in SoHo as an unidentified woman approaches the teenager and begins accusing him of stealing the phone. As she demanded that he return the phone, the woman approached hotel staff and asks that they intervene. Following the woman's lead, hotel staff asked the teenage boy to show his phone. After showing his phone, the woman learned that she had left her phone in an Uber earlier that day.
“I wonder what would happen if it were different if it were a Black woman and there was a white 14-year-old. They assumed he was guilty,” Harrold said.
After learning what had happened, hotel management also issued a public apology to the Harrold family. However, the unnamed woman has yet to reach out to the family.
"[There has been] no apology from her after this traumatic situation to my son. There have been] no apologies from the establishment. This s--- happens so often. It needs to stop," Harrold added.
At this time, it is unclear if Harrold and his son will press charges against the woman.
