Issa Rae Announces 'Insecure' Will End After Fifth Season

All good things must come to an end. Actress, director and producer Issa Rae has announced what many fans had already predicted. Insecure will end with its fifth and final season sometime in the near future. Rae made the announcement along with her production partner, Prentice Penny.

“Prentice and I are so grateful that HBO believed in our show from the beginning and kept faith in us to see our vision through the end,” Rae said.

“We always planned to tell this story through five seasons, but we couldn’t have made it this far without the tremendous support of our audience. I feel blessed beyond measure to bring our characters’ stories to an end, on-screen at least.”

It is unclear when the fifth and final season will premiere, but scripts for the season have been completed and the show will begin production this spring. Stars Jay Ellis, Amanda Seales, Yvonne Orji, Natasha Rothwell and Alexander Hodge will return for the show's final season.

“Issa has turned insecurity into an iconic form of comedy,” HBO executive Amy Gravitt said.

“The show is as incisive as it is heartfelt, and it has resonated strongly with its audience because of the deeply personal work that Issa, Prentice, Melina, the cast and the writers have put into it. This talented team has conceived a brilliant final season for Insecure and we look forward to having many more stories to tell with this singular group."

Fans do not have to worry. Issa Rae began developing two new shows for HBO beginning in 2017. Alongside Travon Free of The Daily Show, Him or Her follows the dating life of a bisexual man. Meanwhile, Sweet Life will follow the lives of Black elites in Windsor Hills, popularly known as the Black Beverly Hills.
