Atlanta hero Keith Walker who bravely saved 16 cats and dogs from a burning animal shelter is getting some help of his own.
Walker, 58, was experiencing homelessness when he made the miraculous rescue from the W-Underdogs animal shelter in late December.
“I was nervous as hell, I’m not going to lie. I was really scared to go in there with all that smoke. But God put me there to save those animals,” Walker told CNN at the time. His own dog was being boarded by the shelter.
“If you love a dog, you can love anymore in the world. My dog is my best friend, and I wouldn’t be here without him, so I knew I had to save all those other dogs.”
Now, Walker is getting some help of his own. Atlanta-based nonprofit Georgie Works! is going to take Walker into their program, according to TMZ. The organization’s CEO Darlene Schultz told the outlet the goal of their help is to empower Walker to be self-sufficient.
The organization has worked with organizers to raise nearly $90k for Walker on a GoFundMe page.
Keith will get housing at a facility in downtown Atlanta through Georgia Works! as well as sessions with a mental health professional, and three daily meals. The organization also provides participants with job readiness resources and support groups.
