ABC News has tapped Linsey Davis to co-anchor the weekend edition of World News Tonight alongside Whit Johnson. Davis and Johnson will take over for Tom Llamas who recently left the network to become the National Affairs Correspondent at NBC News.
"Linsey and Whit are both familiar faces at the World News Tonight desk, having filled in on the weekends and for David [Muir] during the week," ABC News President James Goldston stated in a memo Monday morning.
"Linsey has had an impressive rise at ABC News as a result of her unflinching interview prowess, her versatility and experience. Last year she was named anchor of ABC News Live’s first-ever streaming evening newscast in primetime, which has surged in viewership by over 200 percent since launch a year ago."
The ascension of Linsey Davis is part of a recent shakeup at the network. In recent weeks, women of color like Rachel Scott and Cecilia Vega have been elevated at ABC News. After working as a producer and reporter for ABC News, Scott has been tapped to become the network's congressional correspondent. Meanwhile, Vega has been tapped to become the network's chief White House correspondent. She is the first Latina to hold this position for a major English-language speaking network.
"[I am] proud to be part of this team," Scott tweeted.
"Grateful for another dream job, ABC Congressional Correspondent. Missing my late grandpa whose eyes would light up hearing about the things I could do and see that he never could. Adding one more to that list, grandpa."
Scott and Vega began working their new gigs on Inauguration Day. Davis will officially step behind the World News Tonight desk as a co-anchor on Sunday.
