Georgia GOP Form ‘Stop Stacey’ Group Out Of Fear Of Stacey Abrams

Voting rights advocate and Nobel Peace Prize nominee Stacey Abrams has got Republicans in Georgia worried. So much so, that they’ve formed a group called “Stop Stacey” ahead of an expected run by the Spelman grad for governor of the Peach State, which she hasn’t even formally announced yet.

According to The Washington Post, the group is made up of allies to Georgia’s current governor Brian Kemp, whose controversial win over Abrams in the 2018 gubernatorial race launched her into national recognition. It also fueled her voting rights efforts, which led to nearly a million new voters registered in the state.

Leaders of the group of scared Republicans describe the committee as “a national, grassroots organization of engaged conservatives who are committed to protecting our future from Stacey Abram, her left-wing backers, and their radical, un-American agenda,” according to a statement first shared with Fox News.

In the 2020 election, Abrams’ group Fair Fight Action, along with a host of local organizers, drove record turnout in the state, making Georgia a battleground state in a presidential election, which ultimately led to a historic flip.

Following President Joe Biden’s win in the state, Donald Trump called for three recounts in the state, and toed the line of legality by calling Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, demanding he “find” over 11,000 votes to change the outcome of the race.

On the group’s website, the group runs down Abrams’ achievements including helping to deliver two Senate seats and splitting control of the chamber.

“We have to Stop Stacey and Save America before it’s too late!” the website proclaims.

Aside from the group, other Republicans are looking to impose restrictions in the state to limit absentee voting, which drove a lot of participation, especially from Democratic voters.

Other restrictions are likely to be proposed in an effort to limit the democratic process of giving all eligible voters equitable access to the ballot, which is, by many standards truly the most un-American agenda.
