Awards season has arrived and fans are in an uproar after several key films and series were deprived of nominations by the Golden Globes. Most notably, viewers were surprised to see that Da 5 Bloods, P-Valley and I May Destroy You received no nominations. Also, Lovecraft Country received no acting nominations. Instead, Da 5 Bloods was beaten out by Mank, The Father, Nomadland, Promising Young Woman and The Trial of the Chicago 7 for "Best Motion Picture - Drama." Meanwhile, the committee selected Normal People, Queen's Gambit, Small Axe, The Undoing and Unorthodox instead of I May Destroy You for "Best Television Limited Series."
"Did the Golden Globes really snub I May Destroy You and P-Valley, while nominating Emily in Paris? Now I know good and well," critic and journalist Evette Dionne tweeted.
"[There were] no nods for I May Destroy You? Well, I may destroy the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. How 'bout that?" television producer Muna Mire tweeted.
In several different categories, Black entertainers such as Chadwick Boseman, Viola Davis, Regina King and several others were honored in their work. However, it appears that there is still much more ground to cover on the television end of the award show. As previously mentioned, P-Valley, I May Destroy You and Lovecraft Country all missed out on well-deserved nominations. Even on the film side, Kemp Powers was not acknowledged for his writing on One Night In Miami.
"I just saw the nominations for the Golden Globes. Hollywood always preaches diversity, but really chooses five to seven good performances and then says 'Yea that's good, now Emily in Paris for the rest,'" actress NiaRae Allen tweeted.
"Please move the Golden Globes out of Black History Month," writer Rembert Browne added.
