One of the women who was seen in a viral dash cam video clip assaulting an Uber driver has been arrested. Twenty-four-year-old Malaysia King was arrested by Las Vegas police on Tuesday (March 9), according to the Los Angeles Times. A second woman, Arna Kimiai, also 24, is set to turn herself in to authorities, according to communication between police and her lawyer.
“We’re glad to hear that Ms. Kimiai intends to do the right thing and turn herself in to the nearest law enforcement agency, and we hope it happens promptly,” Lt. Tracy McCray said in a statement, according to the outlet. McCray added that the women “showed a callous disregard for the safety and well-being of an essential service worker in the midst of a deadly pandemic.”
On Sunday (March 7), King, Kimiai, and another woman got into an Uber with driver Subhakar Khadka. One of the women reportedly refused to put a mask on, as is required by the ride share app. Khadka reportedly ended the ride, and dash camera footage captured the aftermath of the exchange. In the video clip that circulated social media, Kimiai is seen hitting Khadka, ripping off his face mask, and coughing on him before grabbing his phone.
Kimiai was banned from both Uber and Lyft following the incident. King, who reportedly traveled to Las Vegas on Thursday (March 11) is currently facing charges of assault with a caustic chemical, assault and battery, violation of health and safety codes, and conspiracy, according to a Facebook post by the San Francisco Police.
The third woman who was in the car at the time of incident is not wanted by authorities.
