Reps. Jamaal Bowman, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Say Cuomo Can No Longer Lead

Reps. Jamaal Bowman and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez joined dozens of lawmakers in and around the state of New York to put out a joint statement regarding Governor Andrew Cuomo. In their joint statement, Bowman and Ocasio-Cortez stated that Cuomo can "no longer effectively lead" after being accused of various crimes by women who previously worked for him.

“As members of the New York delegation to the U.S. House of Representatives, we believe these women, we believe the reporting, we believe the Attorney General, and we believe the fifty-five members of the New York State legislature, including the State Senate Majority Leader, who have concluded that Governor Cuomo can no longer effectively lead in the face of so many challenges,” lawmakers stated.

"After two accounts of sexual assault, four accounts of harassment, the Attorney General’s investigation finding the Governor’s admin hid nursing home data from the legislature & public, we agree with the 55+ members of the New York State legislature that the Governor must resign," Ocasio-Cortez stated.

It is unclear if Cuomo will serve out the remainder of his term as Governor. As previously stated, multiple women who have worked for him have accused the governor of sexual assault and harassment. Adding insult to injury, multiple reports have indicated that his office did not properly report COVID-19 data from nursing homes around the state.

This is the strongest statement regarding the matter from Democratic lawmakers thus far. When asked about the matter, Vice President Kamala Harris moved away from the topic.

“Madame Vice President, do you have any comment on Gov. Cuomo?” a reporter asked on Wednesday.

Harris turned away before answering the question. Previously, she was swift to condemn the actions of Al Franken, who has been accused of similar acts. As it pertains to the Cuomo accusations, Harris will wait for an investigation to take place before commenting further.
