Prince Harry and Meghan Markle recently announced their charitable organization, The Archewell Foundation, will be making donations to a few groups this year.
The groups range from mental wellness organizations, racial justice collectives, and media diversity action orgs.
According to a report by TheGrio, Mind, one of the groups receiving monetary support, came out publicly in support of Meghan Markle following the March 7 interview the Duke and Duchess had with Oprah Winfrey. Mind is a British-based mental health nonprofit.
Color of Change, which boasts being “America’s largest online racial justice organization,” will also be receiving money from Archewell. The organization was founded in 2005 as a means to uplift Black people’s political voice in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
URL Media and PressPad Charitable Foundation are the other donation recipients. According to Harper’s Bazaar, PressPad is an organization that is seeking to “improve socio-economic diversity within the media by lowering the financial barrier for young people who want to become journalists,” as stated on the organization’s website.
URL Media is based in the US and shares similar interest in amplifying diversity and inclusion initiatives in media, specifically to “uplift, respect, and love” communities.
PressPad shared the news of the donation on Twitter. “We’re excited by such positive affirmation action after difficult yet important moments of reckoning for the UK media,” the post reads in part.
The Archewell Foundation touts a message of “compassion in action,” and has a range of partnerships across industries. It was founded in 2020.
