Police arrested a San Antonio man outside of US Naval Observatory, the official residence of the vice president, in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday (March 17). They reportedly recovered a rifle and ammunition from his car.
Law enforcement knew about the man, 31-year-old Paul Murray, from an intelligence memo from Texas and made its way to police officials in the nation’s capital. Officers, according to a spokesperson for Washington’s Metropolitan Police, responded “at approximately 12:12 p.m., to the 3400 block of Massachusetts Avenue, NW in reference to a suspicious person based on an intelligence bulletin that originated from Texas, who was detained by US Secret Service,” per CNN.
Police searched Murray’s car and is currently facing weapons and ammunition charges after police recovered an “AR-15 semi-automatic rifle, 113 rounds of unregistered ammunition, and five 30 round magazines,” according to a police report obtained by the outlet.
The US Secret Service reported to CNN that neither Vice President Harris or her husband, Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff were at the official residence at the time of Murray’s arrest. The couple hasn't been living at what is traditionally designated as the Vice President's residence as it is undergoing repairs.
