Black actors and actresses are leading horror stories in an entirely new way. Later this week, Lena Waithe is set to unveil her horror, sci-fi series, Them, on Amazon Prime. Later this year, Jordan Peele and Nia DaCosta are preparing to drop their highly-anticipated Candyman reboot. Joining the growing list of Black-led horror projects, Chris Rock and Samuel L. Jackson are getting ready for the release of their latest film, Spiral: From The Book Of Saw.
"A criminal mastermind unleashes a twisted form of justice in Spiral, the terrifying new chapter from the book of Saw. Working in the shadow of his father, an esteemed police veteran, brash Detective Ezekiel 'Zeke' Banks and his rookie partner take charge of a grisly investigation into murders that are eerily reminiscent of the city’s gruesome past. Unwittingly entrapped in a deepening mystery, Zeke finds himself at the center of the killer’s morbid game," the official description Lionsgate reads.
Joining Rock and Jackson, the film also stars Max Minghella from The Handmaid's Tale and Marisol Nichols from Riverdale. The producers of the first Saw film, Mark Burg and Oren Koules, are returning to work on the film as well. Behind the scenes, Darren Lynn Bousman of Saw II, Saw III and Saw IV, directed the film with Josh Stolberg and Pete Goldfinger writing the script.
Chris Rock is gearing up for a busy year. He is currently filming an untitled movie with David O. Russell. He's also set to star in I Am Maurice and he is working on an animated reboot of Everybody Hates Chris.
