Legal analyst Midwin Charles has reportedly passed away at 47 years old. The Charles family shared the news via Twitter on Tuesday evening.
“It is with a profoundly heavy heart and the deepest sadness that we announce the untimely passing of our beloved Midwin Charles,” the family tweeted.
For many years, Charles appeared in print and television as a legal analyst providing analysis for some of the nation's most pressing legal cases. She also worked as a contributor for Essence Magazine. Not to mention, she appeared on CNN, MSNBC, HLN and Bloomberg TV.
Beyond her time on television, Charles was a hardworking defense attorney at her own law firm, Midwin Charles & Associates. She earned a law degree at American University's Washington College of Law and worked as a law clerk for Judge Eric L. Clay. She also served as the A. Leon Higginbotham Jr. Research Fellow in Social Justice at Harvard Law School.
In the aftermath of her passing, a number of her friends and colleagues offered their condolences.
"This is simply devastating. Midwin was such a wonderful, brilliant, kind, and beautiful soul. Our hearts are broken," Marc Lamont Hill tweeted.
"Midwin was my friend. We worked together on In Session/Court TV. She was a brilliant beautiful legal mind. I will miss her and am praying for her family and especially for her mother whom she adored and spoke of so often. Rest my dear friend," The View's Sunny Hostin added.
A cause of death has not been shared with the public.
