Portland Trailblazers Forward Carmelo Anthony has launched his own global content company called Creative 7. Inspired by The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Do The Right Thing and Martin, Anthony is working with business strategist Asani Swann to creative television series, films and short-form content that will define, educate and empower a younger generation.
“Storytelling brings people together, and it can serve as a vehicle for propelling larger societal conversations and understanding,” Anthony told Variety.
“We are interested in all types of stories that have the power to serve as catalysts for the change we wish to see in the world.”
Anthony is already off to a great start. He and Swann have already locked in deals with Brad Pitt, Will Packer and the production team behind Get Out.
“We are excited to work with Carmelo, Asani, and the team at Creative 7, and look forward to sharing more about the project soon,” Pitts production company, Plan B, said in a brief statement.
In addition, Creative 7 has a number of projects addressing social issues in the works. Anthony and Swann have teamed up with the production company, Impossible Dream, on a project that tells the unbelievable story of the Jersey Four. He also has locked in a slot for the ESPN's legendary documentary series, 30 for 30. Not to mention, Creative 7 is working on a project that explores the relationship between Muhammad Ali and Malcolm X.
"We aim to champion stories that will give a voice to the silenced, encourage the tough but necessary conversations, bring families together and open peoples’ minds to consider new or different ways of thinking," Anthony explained.
"People of color have always been, and will always be, at the forefront of social change, uncovering new levels of understanding, compassion, equality, justice, love, reconciliation and forgiveness. I am excited about the reinforcement of strength and new allies joining this movement across multiple industries. Our hope is that the narrative will shift to what we have earned versus what we have been given, what we have built versus what’s been contributed, and who we are versus what you see. I am excited about all that is possible," Swann added.
