7-Year-Old Jaslyn Adams Fatally Shot In McDonald’s Drive-Thru

Seven-year-old Jaslyn Adams was fatally shot on Sunday afternoon (April 18) in Chicago while in the car with her father at a McDonald’s drive-thru.

Police in Chicago are looking for the person who opened fire, and no arrests have been made.

“It’s really emotional now for my family,” Jaslyn’s aunt, Tawny McMullen, told CNN-affiliate WBBM

“She was just….sweet and outgoing. Really talkative, really lovable,” McMullen added.

A police vehicle was already at the McDonald’s and rushed Jaslyn to a nearby hospital. She had been shot multiple times and was pronounced dead. Her father, Jontae Adams, was also shot and hospitalized, but survived.

“Y’all, please put the guns down,” McMullen said. “Our kids want to play. My kids can’t even go out the door because of this violence. Please put the guns down.”

Over the weekend, several shootings took place around the country, including in Indianapolis, Indiana, Austin, Texas Kenosha, Wisconsin, Columbus, Ohio, and Omaha, Nebraska. In LaPlace, Louisiana on Saturday (April 17) nine children were wounded during a 12-year-old's birthday party.

The surge in mass shootings this year has prompted advocates and lawmakers to push for gun control legislation.

Jaslyn’s death also comes after the body camera footage in the fatal Chicago police-involved shooting of 13-year-old Adam Toledo.

Jaslyn’s family held a vigil for her on Monday (April 19).
