The Fall River, Massachusetts Police Department issued an apology after a staffer reposted a comment on the department’s Facebook page instead of their personal one.
“Chauvin immediately stood and calmly placed his hands behind his back. Imagine where we’d be had George done the same,” the post read, referencing convicted murderer Derek Chauvin who was taken away in handcuffs after a jury found him guilty for the murder of George Floyd last May.
According to a report by The Huffington Post, the department explained that an officer accessed the department’s official Facebook account who reposted a post they meant for their personal page.
The post was deleted, but not before a screenshot of the post was shared to Twitter, fueling backlash.
“The posting in no way represents the opinion” of the department or its chief, a statement said.
“We will continue our commitment toward transparency and building relationships with our community,” the statement continued.
Fall River Mayor Paul Coogan said, “The individual is genuinely remorseful. He feels like he’s let a ton of people down, as he should.”
The officer, the department said, could face some disciplinary action.
