During a press conference on Tuesday (April 27), the attorneys representing the family of Andrew Brown, Jr. released the results of an independent autopsy conducted on his body.
According to the report conducted by forensic pathologist Dr. Brent Hall, Andrew Brown, Jr. was shot five times, including a fatal shot to the back of his head last week, while multiple officers in Elizabeth City, North Carolina executed a search warrant.
Brown was “leaving the site trying to evade being shot at by these particular law enforcement officers that we believe did nothing but a straight up execution,” Wayne Kendall, an attorney representing the family, told reporters during the press conference.
The autopsy report confirms the findings on a state certificate that said Brown died from a “penetrating gunshot wound of the head,” NBC News reported. Brown’s death was ruled a homicide.
Brown’s family, along with the community of Elizabeth City, have demanded release of body camera footage to the public in the six days following Brown’s killing. Attorneys for the family say they were only allowed to view a 20 second clip of one body cam that had been edited.
One of Brown’s sons, Khalil Ferebee, said the officers used unnecessary lethal force.
“Those [four] gunshots to the arm, that weren’t enough? That weren’t enough?” Khalil said. “It’s obvious he was trying to get away. It’s obvious and they’re going to shoot him in the back of the head? That sh–– not right. That’s not right at all, man.”
