Throughout his career, former President Barack Obama has made his rounds on late-night television. He has chopped it up with Jay Leno on The Tonight Show and joked with The Kid Mero and Desus Nice on Showtime. Despite being a recurring fixture on late-night television, the bestselling author has never spent time on The Late Late Show with James Corden. However, that all changed last night when the former U.S. Senator talked about a number of different things with Corden and company.
During his time on The Late Late Show, Obama spoke about something he's never discussed openly before. Yes, the former President talked about the possibility that aliens may or may not exist. As any reasonable person would, the Hawaiian native asked about the existence of aliens when he was elected in the nation's highest office. To his disappointment, the answer isn't one many conspiracy theorists would hope for. Then again, would he even tell the country the truth about such a thing?
"The truth is that when I came into office, I asked. I was like, 'Alright, is there a lab somewhere where we're keeping the alien specimens and spaceship?'" he told Corden Reggie Watts.
"And they did a little bit of research, and the answer was no."
After offering answers about the existence of aliens, Watts and Corden asked him to provide the next logical thing you'd ask a former President to provide, dating advice. Corden's right-hand man, Ian Karmel, entered a new relationship during the pandemic and thought the married father of two could offer some insight.
“My girlfriend and I started dating during the pandemic, and we already live together, but we’ve never actually had a real first date,” Karmel told Obama.
"Now that the world is opening back up again, I wonder if you have any advice for what we should do. What should that first date be?”
Obama begins by telling Karmel to wear the jacket he's wearing now on their first date. Then, he suggested the two simply go out to eat.
“Second of all, how’s this a problem? You have gone to dinner with people before, right? You know how restaurants work, right?" he asks Karmel jokingly.
“They feed you. You order a little wine, say nice things to her, compliment her on her dress. Ian, is this really the biggest problem you have? I’m the former president of the United States, man. You should have come up with something better.”
Obama is helpful when providing advice that is short, sweet and to the point. This is something that everyone, especially Corden can appreciate.
“Oh my God, I love this,” Corden says as he laughs.
“It started as a question; it ended as a roast.”
