The last 18 months have been incredibly hard in the world of entertainment. Legends such as Kobe Bryant, Little Richard and Andre Harrell have all died within the last year and a half. More recently, the world mourned the loss of the late Earl "DMX" Simmons. Unfortunately, the world lost yet another legend in the world of entertainment today. As reported by Roland Martin, comedic legend Paul Mooney has passed away after suffering a heart attack in his Oakland, California home. His cousin, Rudy Ealy, confirmed the unfortunate news this morning.
Mooney is a legendary comedic mind who contributed to the greatness of Richard Pryor. In addition, the Louisiana native portrayed Sam Cooke in The Buddy Holly Story and played Junebug in Bamboozled. Adding to his legacy, he also wrote for The Chapelle Show, In Living Color, Sanford and Son, Good Times, Saturday Night Live and The Richard Pryor Show. More recently, he appeared in Kevin Hart's The Real Husbands of Hollywood, Mike Epps's Meet The Blacks and Chris Rock's Good Hair.
"Thank you all from the bottom of all of our hearts. You’re all are the best! Mooney World. The Godfather of Comedy. One moon, many stars. To all in love with this great man, many thanks," Paul Mooney's official Twitter account tweeted this morning.
Mooney leaves behind four children and a number of grandchildren. At this time, there is no word as to when or if there will be a public service honoring the late comedian before his laid to rest.
