Throughout his career, Barack Obama has worn many different hats. He's served as a U.S. Senator and U.S. President. More recently, he's stepped into the role of a podcast host and added the title of "best-selling author" to his resume. This week, he stepped into yet another new role, football coach.
The 44th President of the United States surprised a youth football team at Jackson Park in Chicago, Illinois. While there, he offered the kids a few words of advice and inspiration.
"Sometimes, you’re going to have some doubts. Sometimes, you’re going to make mistakes. Sometimes, you won’t get what you want right away."
"But the key is, can you build that strength in yourself to come back?"
The Chicago Southside Wolfpack currently practices at Jackson Park which is the future site of the Obama Presidential Center. Not only will the youth football team get a new field, but it will also feature a playground, museum, library and much more. A construction crew is set to break ground on the site later this year.
"Through this process, we’ve shown that our plans for the Obama Presidential Center — including new gardens, playgrounds, walking trails, and bike paths for all to enjoy — won’t just preserve historic Jackson Park, they’ll bring opportunity and breathe new life into the community we love,” Obama said about the site.
“It will be a catalyst for economic development and there are real benefits that will come from it — amenities to the park and jobs. It’s really a good day,” Michael Strautmanis of the Obama Foundation added.
When it's all said and done, the Obama Presidential Center is projected to provide a $3.1 economic boom for the area while creating 5,000 direct and indirect job opportunities.
