VP Harris’ Plane Forced To Turn Around After Technical Issue

Vice President Kamala Harris’ plane was forced to return to base on Sunday (June 6) due to a technical issue. Officials said there was “no immediate safety issue” with Air Force Two but the vessel returned to Joint Base Andrews in Maryland after about 30 minutes from take off.

VP Harris gave a thumbs-up after she got off the plane and reassured everything was okay.

“I’m good, I’m good. We all said a little prayer, but we’re good,” Harris said. She’s traveling to Guatemala and Mexico as the administration’s leader on the current immigration situation. This is the first international trip she's taken since taking office in January.

Symone Sanders, Harris’ spokesperson, told reporters traveling with the vice president that the landing gear was not storing properly, which could have led to further issues.

“While there [were] no immediate safety issues, out of an abundance of caution they returned to JBA where they have all the parts and mechanics they need to fix the issue,” Sanders said.

Harris made her first stop on the trip Monday (June 7) in Guatemala City where she's scheduled to meet with President Alejandro Giammattei to discuss economic opportunities for the country, NPR reported. She’ll then head to Mexico City to meet with president Andrés Manuel López Obrador to discuss strategies for business development, investment and more.
