Actor Charlie Robinson, known for his role as the clerk on Night Court, died Sunday (July 11) of cancer complications at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles. He was 75 years old.

With over 125 TV and film credits, Robinson graced screens everywhere for 50 years. According to Deadline, the Houston, Texas native got his start in the 1970s in guest roles on shows like Hill Street Blues and Roots: The Next Generation. In 1983, he was cast as "Newdell" in the sitcom Buffalo Bill. The series was nominated for an Emmy before being canceled in 1984. Later that same year, Robinson would get his career break as "Mac Robinson" on Night Court.

He played the role for nine seasons and had an impressive acting run of 12 consecutive TV seasons as a regular on three different shows.

In the 1990s, Robinson had a recurring role on Home Improvement and several other sitcoms. In the last few years, he’s had guest roles on shows like This Is Us, Raven’s Home, and Grey’s Anatomy. His film credits include the classic Set It Off, Antwone Fisher, and more. Just last year, the actor played a role in Love in the Time of Corona

His widow, Dolorita Noonan-Robinson, paid tribute to him:

“Once referred to by Martin Landau as ‘the greatest, underestimated actor in Hollywood,’ Charles Robinson was the love of my life, husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was truly the working actor’s actor, and of all his passions, his craft took center stage, with his family being the wind beneath his wings, so he could soar to unbelievable heights! On behalf of my husband and family, I thank you for being part of the audience,” she wrote, per Deadline.

Fellow actors took to Twitter to remember Robinson and honor his memory.
