Actress Viola Davis has announced that she will release her latest memoir, Finding Me, in April 2022. The book will chronicle her rise from tough circumstances in Rhode Island to becoming one of the most accomplished actresses in Hollywood.

“I believe that our stories, and the courage to share them, is the most powerful empathetic tool we have,” Davis said about her new book.

"This is my story...straight no chaser.”

Davis has built a 30-year career in entertainment through film, television and theater. She is best known for her role as Annalise Keating in the ABC drama, How To Get Away With Murder, but she has also appeared in The Help, Widow and Fences. Davis also has a deep background in theater that included performances of William Shakespeare's As You Like It and August Wilson's Seven Guitars. This summer, she's set to appear in The First Lady and Suicide Squad.

Beyond her work on stage, Davis has also developed a presence in children's books. She's contributed to the audio version of Corduroy and Corduroy Takes A Bow. Finding Me will be her first foray into nonfiction literature.

“Viola Davis is a powerful truth-teller — through her work on stage and screen, as well as in her life,” HarperOne President Judith Curr said.

“I’m looking forward to working with her on a book that powerfully reveals the risk and danger for a Black woman living in the fullness of her talents and gifts — and the reward and freedom that comes with it.”

Davis will release her first memoir, Finding Me, through HarperOne and Ebony on April 19, 2022.
