Halle Berry is definitely bringing the two-punch combo energy for her upcoming MMA film coming to Netflix later this year.
According to Shadow and Act, the film entitled Bruised will not only be Berry’s feature film directorial debut, she’ll also be starring in the film scheduled for release on the platform November 24 of this year.
The streaming platform reportedly snagged the rights for the film during the 2020 Toronto International Film Festival after the film was screened there as a work in progress. It’s a project Berry revealed she’s worked on for three years.
The plot follows Jackie Justice, a “disgraced MMA fighter who has failed at the one thing she’s ever been good at –– fighting.”
When the character’s six-year-old son Manny who she left behind years ago returns, Jackie has no choice but to “conquer her demons, face one of the fiercest rising stars of the MMA world and ultimately fight to become the mother this kid deserves.”
Berry tweeted about the project with its release date secured, revealing that she’s a real-life fan of the brutal fight sport.
“This project is so special to me, not only because it’s my directorial debut, but because the fight game, especially MMA, is a sport that I absolutely love and a genre that has always been winning. Everyone loves to root for the underdog, as we’ve all been there,” the acting icon wrote.
