Issa Rae may be finishing up her last season of Insecure, but she is far from done working with HBO. On Tuesday, the star director and actress debuted the trailer for her first unscripted series on HBO, Sweet Life. The unscripted series follows the lives of talented Black creatives in Los Angeles, California as they balance their friendships, love lives, careers and much more.
"Say hello to the future of South LA. From Issa Rae comes a new unscripted series that follows a friend group of ambitious 20-somethings, making moves to make their dreams a reality as they navigate their personal lives, careers, and what it means to grow up Black in South Los Angeles. Together, they're getting their first taste of the Sweet Life," the description reads.
Sweet Life is the latest addition HBO Max's growing list of unscripted series. After years of delivering scripted classics like The Wire and The Sopranos, HBO has recently delivered unscripted series like The Hype with Offset and F Boy Island with Nikki Glaser. F Boy Island kicked off its first season on July 30 and The Hype will debut on August 12. To round out the slate of unscripted programming, Sweet Life: Los Angeles will premiere on August 19.
Beyond Sweet Life, Rae is also developing a two-part series called Seen & Heard that explores the history of Black creatives in television and film. Also, she is executive producing an HBO series inspired by Octavia Butler's book, Fledgling. Not to mention, Rae is also reportedly working on an upcoming HBO Max series called Rap S--- starring KaMillion, Jonica Booth, Aida Osman and Devon Terrell.
