The next presidential election is three years away, but Donald Trump has already threatened that he may get involved. During a recent interview with talk show host Lisa Boothe, the Florida resident shared his thoughts on the upcoming election and his involvement.

“We won it twice. I've won it twice and now I have to win it again. I guess if we're going to save the country, look...I'll make a decision,” Trump said.

As the interview went on, Trump explained that his decision would be heavily influenced by the upcoming midterm elections in 2022.

“It won't be maybe for a little while. You know, a lot of people would like to see a decision immediately, but perhaps there's also a big group, including maybe myself, that would like to see it after the midterms,” he added.

His decision to run will also be partially influenced by his disdain for President Joe Biden. The two men ran against each other in November 2020 and Biden edged him out by nearly 75 electoral college votes. In the weeks after the election, Trump argued that the election was "stolen" when there was no credible evidence that it had been. Following Biden's inauguration, he criticized Biden's handling of the pandemic and policing. More recently, Trump has criticized Biden's foreign policy and his handling of withdrawing troops from Afghanistan.

“Nobody's ever seen embarrassment like this, between the border and Afghanistan [but] I guess Afghanistan blows everything away. There's never been anything like that … such stupidity and incompetence so I think you're going to be very happy," he argues.

“We had [Afghanistan] so under control, like you wouldn't believe I dealt with a...I dealt with the Taliban at the highest level. The military would have come out last, not first. That was the big mistake — they took the military and they left 35 or 45,000 people right in harm's way. This was a horrible miscarriage.”

Regardless of what Trump has said, the Biden administration has moved forward with the decision to begin the process of withdrawing all troops from Afghanistan by August 31.
