Netflix has reportedly greenlit two seasons of documentary series put together by Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith's Westbrook Studios. With Pinkett Smith set to produce, each season of the untitled series will highlight the life and legacies of African queens like Cleopatra and Njinga. Each episode will feature interviews with scholars along with dramatic reenactments.
“As the mother of a young Black woman, it is immensely important to me that she learns the lessons of the African Queens who paved the way for our success and the success of generations of Black women,” Pinkett Smith told Deadline.
“I am very passionate and excited about bringing the stories and lessons of these powerful women to light in order to showcase their strength, leadership, and undeniable influence on history.”
Pinkett Smith has been on a roll as of late. She is currently executive producing two films, Uptown Saturday Night starring Kevin Hart and King Richard starring Will Smith. In addition, she's executive producing a new miniseries called Straight Talk. To top it all off, she recently signed a deal with iHeartMedia to launch the Red Table Talk Podcast Network. Through this deal, Jada Pinkett Smith will continue to host Red Table Talk with her daughter, Willow Smith, and her mother, Adrienne Banfield-Norris. Adding on to the network, Banfield-Norris will host her own podcast called Positively Gram. Rounding out the network, Red Table Talk: The Estefans with Gloria Estefan, Emily Estefan, and Lili Estefan will launch this month.
"Additional podcasts and creators set to join the Red Table Talk Audio Network will be announced in the coming months," the press statement adds.
With just a few months left in the year, Pinkett Smith is finishing up strong and setting up for a major run in 2022 as well.
