Jonathan Jackson, the son of Reverend Jesse Jackson Sr., has provided an update regarding the health of his father. Jonathan Jackson reportedly told TMZ that his father's COVID-19 symptoms are dissipating, but the effects of Parkinson's Disease are worsening. As a result, he is being transported to Chicago's Shirley Ryan Ability Lab where he will begin "intensive occupational and physical therapy."
Jonathan Jackson also provided an update regarding his mother, Jacqueline Jackson, who was also hospitalized after testing positive for COVID-19. She remains in the ICU as she battles the deadly virus. Fortunately, she is breathing on her own, but still requires assistance from a machine.
Reverend Jesse Jackson Sr. and his wife, Jacqueline, were first hospitalized on August 21. The two, who are both vaccinated, traveled to a nearby hospital because Jacqueline Jackson felt ill and Jackson Sr. wanted to have her evaluated further. During the evaluation, the couple tested positive for COVID-19 and were hospitalized in Chicago. Jonathan Jackson issued a statement shortly after the news broke on Saturday.
"Doctors are currently monitoring the condition of both," Jackson stated, according to NPR.
"There are no further updates at this time."
Days later, Jackson Sr. spoke to reporters from the Associated Press and told them that he was "doing fairly well." His son, Jonathan, also delivered a brief statement indicating that his parents were "responding positively to their treatment."
Throughout this ordeal, a number of public figures like Al Sharpton, Hakeem Jeffries and Bernice King have offered their thoughts and prayers to the Jackson family.
