Elaine Welteroth announced she is leaving CBS’ daytime talk show The Talk after co-hosting the show for nine months.
The fashion author and expert is the second co-host to leave the show within two weeks, following Carrie Ann Inaba’s exit announcement last month. The show currently has three co-hosts left: Sheryl Underwood, Amanda Kloots and the newly hired Jerry O’Connell, with Underwood being the longest-serving co-host on the panel.
“It is an absolute honor for anyone, but especially a young Black woman, to occupy space on-air where our perspectives are largely underrepresented,” Welteroth said, per The Hollywood Reporter.
“It was gratifying to be able to show up as my authentic self in front of a live national audience every day in a world as divided as ours and to stay true to myself and what I stand for.”
Earlier this year, The Talk made headlines after former co-host Sharon Osbourne yelled at Underwood over comments made about Meghan Markle’s mental health. The fallout from the on-air incident led to the show being off the air for several weeks before Osbourne exited the show.
Following the incident, rumors swirled about a complaint Welteroth allegedly filed against the work environment she endured on the show.
“I came to ‘The Talk’ to break out of my own echo chamber and to join a diverse case in helping to bridge some of the divides in our world through conversation and empathy. I’m proud of how I represented myself and my community. But as I always say: When the music changes, so must your dance!
“I will miss my talked co-hosts and crew and I wish them the very best,” she said. “Thanks to all who tuned in everyday. I’m excited to continue these necessary conversations in my work and to share my upcoming creative projects soon.”
