The Houston Texans have fired head coach David Culley after just one season.

A source confirmed to ESPN's Adam Schefter Thursday (January 13) that Culley's brief time with the team came to end after ownership placed the longtime assistant on a four-day evaluation after the team's 4-13 season ended Sunday (January 9) though, he had reportedly expected to return to coach for a second season.

Culley was just one of three Black head coaches in the NFL, which has been reduced to just one in a matter of days after the Miami Dolphins fired head coach Brian Flores Monday (January 10) despite a winning season.

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin is now the only Black head coach in the NFL.

Before joining the Texans' organization, Culley spent two seasons with the Baltimore Ravens serving as an assistant coach, passing game coordinator, and wide receivers coach. When he was hired by the Texans in January 2021, he became the oldest NFL head coach, at age 65.

He has 43 years of coaching experience across the collegiate and NFL levels.
