Joint Base Andrews in Maryland went on lockdown Sunday night (March 6) after two armed intruders bypassed a security checkpoint and made their way on base. Authorities arrested one of the two suspects, a 17-year-old, while the other is still at large.

The incident took place around 9 p.m., right before Vice President Kamala Harris and other members of the cabinet had been on base officials said. The lockdown was initiated after the two intruders failed to stop at a security checkpoint and obey commands. A statement from the base says no guns were fired.

The base's main gate was reopened to full capacity Monday morning (March 7) after a sweep of the area was completed and the second intruder determined to have left and remains on the run.

Harris had just returned from Selma, Alabama to mark the 57th anniversary of the Bloody Sunday march along with HUD secretary Marcia Fudge, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, DOE Secretary Miguel Cardoza, EPA Director Michael Regan and Deputy Veteran Affairs Secretary Donald Remy, NBC News confirmed with the VP's office.

They all departed by the time the intruders made their way on base, but the journalists traveling with them were stopped in vans until the all-clear was given.

Multiple state, local, and federal agencies are still investigating. Joint Base Andrews houses the President's plane, known as Air Force One.
