Republican Sen. Susan Collins says she will be voting to confirm Supreme Court nominee Ketanji Brown Jackson. Collins told The New York Times in an interview she plans to support Jackson's historic nomination.
The announcement came through Wednesday (March 30), days before the Senate Judiciary Committee is scheduled to formally meet to vote whether to move Judge Jackson's nomination to a Senate Floor vote.
"I have decided to support the confirmation of Judge Jackson to be a member of the Supreme Court," Collins told The Times. Her decision also comes after meeting with Jackson earlier this week, as reported by CNN.
Judge Jackson endured a tense four days of confirmation hearings last week, answering questions related and unrelated to her job as a judge.
While several Republicans –– Mitch McConnell, Ted Cruz, and Lindsey Graham –– have publicly announced they will not be supporting Jacksons' confirmation, experts say the Senate math is pointing to a likely confirmation. Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin said he'll be voting for Jackson and Vice President Kamala Harris still hold the tie-breaking voting authority within the chamber.
If confirmed, Judge Jackson will be the first Black woman to serve on the US Supreme Court.
