Arizona Cardinals cornerback Jeff Gladney, 25, died in a car crash on Monday (May 30), per CNN.
On Monday, Gladney was involved in a fatal vehicle collision that occurred around 2:30 a.m in Dallas. The Cardinals cornerback was one of two people that died in the tragic incident.
According to the Dallas County Sheriff's Department, a white vehicle was speeding and lost control after clipping a second vehicle. The white vehicle hit a freeway pier beam killing Gladney and a female passenger.
The man and woman inside the second vehicle that was hit from behind weren't injured, CNN reports.
Gladney started his football career at Texas Christian University (TCU). The former Horned Frog went on to become the Minnesota Vikings' first-round draft pick in 2020.
The Vikings said in a statement about the 25-year-old's death, "Our hearts go out to his family and friends, as well as the Arizona Cardinals organization and Jeff's current and former teammates and coaches who are mourning his life lost much too soon."
According to the NFL's website, the CB was released from the Vikings in 2021 after he was indicted on felony assault charges. Gladney was found not guilty, and the Cardinals added him to their roster during the off-season via a two-year contract.
Recently, Gladney was training with the Cardinals during the league's organized team practices ahead of the 2022 season.
The Cardinals tweeted Monday, "We are devastated to learn of Jeff Gladney's passing. Our hearts go out to his family, friends, and all who are mourning this tremendous loss."
NFL players across the league also tweeted out their condolences.
Former TCU player and current Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Jalen Reagor tweeted, "Lost my Brother, my best friend, my right hand man." Reagor continued, "R.I.P Jeff Gladney, brother watch over me please."
