William "Poogie" Hart has died at the age of 77.
According to TMZ, the Grammy Award-winning lead singer of The Delfonics passed away on Thursday (July 15).
Hart's son told the outlet his father was recently admitted to Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia after having trouble breathing. He added that Hart died at the hospital after complications during surgery.
Hart created The Delfonics with his brother, Wilbert Hart, in the late '60s. The two went on to add Randy Cain, Ritchie Daniels, and Thom Bell to the group. The Delfonics became known for their Philadelphia sound, a.k.a. T.S.O.P, which they are credited as one of the sounds' earliest developers.
In 1971, The Delfonics won a Grammy for Best Performance By A Duo Or Group, Vocal Or instrumental for their hit "Didn't I."
The group is also known for their hits "La-La (Means I Love You)," "Didn't I (Blow Your Mind This Time)," "Break Your Promise," "I'm Sorry," and "Ready or Not Here I Come (Can't Hide from Love)."
