Multi-hyphenate entertainer Solange Knowles has landed a historic role as a ballet composer.

On Monday (August 15), the New York City Ballet announced that Knowles has been tapped to compose the music for its Fall Fashion Gala.

It is the first time a Black woman will ever compose a score for a production in the Ballet, NBC News reports.

Knowles, 36, shared the groundbreaking news Tuesday (August 6) on Twitter.

“Very excited to announce I’ve composed an original score for the New York City Ballet,” Knowles tweeted.

Though the title of the production Knowles is composing for remains unknown, it will feature choreography by Gianna Riesen, she added.

The Fall Fashion Gala, which is commemorating its 10th anniversary, will debut Knowles' composition on September 28 at Lincoln Center in New York City. The event will also honor the ballet's vice chair and actress Sarah Jessica Parker.

Following its premiere, the production featuring the Houston native's music will be staged on October 1, 8, 11, and 16 and next year on May 2, 11, 13, 17, and 18.

Knowles, Beyonc's sister, has built a successful career as a singer-songwriter, often creating hits that reflect on experiences unique to Black women. Her 2016 single “Cranes in the Sky” earned the 2016 Grammy for best R&B performance, and four of her songs from A Seat at the Table landed on Billboard’s Hot R&B Songs chart that same year.

Tickets for Knowles' upcoming production are available on the New York City Ballet website.
