Tennis superstar Serena Williams just gave the perfect response to reaching the third round of the US Open in a post-match interview that's gone viral.

On Wednesday (August 31), Williams defeated Anett Kontaveit, the No. 2 player in the world, advancing her to the third round of the US Open in New York.

Following the upset victory, Williams was asked if she surprised herself with her "level" of performance.

The tennis champ paused and laughed at the question, then confidently responded "I'm just Serena."

The quote sent the US Open crowd into an uproar, and a clip of the interview has now been widely shared on social media.

"After Mary Joe Fernandez asked Serena if she's surprising herself, she looked at her like, HAVE YOU READ THE FILE ON ME?," Atlantic journalist Jemele Hill said on Twitter.

Vice President Kamala Harris reacted to Williams' win, tweeting, "Thank you Serena Williams for inspiring people around the world with your talent, grace, and determination both on and off the court.

"We celebrate all that you have been, all that you are, and all that is to come," the VP continued.

The US Open win comes after Williams announced that her tennis career was coming to a close last month.

In a personal essay written for Vogue Magazine, Williams said she was "evolving away from tennis" to focus on her family, business ventures, and other things that are important to her outside of the sport.

The tennis star closed her interview Wednesday saying she no longer has anything to prove in her career.

"Honestly I am just looking at it as a bonus, I don't have anything to prove," Williams said. "I don't have anything to win, I have absolutely nothing to lose."

Williams has an upcoming match on Thursday (August 1), where she will compete in the women's doubles alongside her sister Venus Williams.
