NeNe Leakes, a former cast member of The Real Housewives of Atlanta, has spoken out on reports of her youngest son experiencing a sudden medical scare earlier this month that sent him to the hospital.

On Monday (October 23), Leakes confirmed on her Instagram story that Brentt Leakes, 23, suffered both congestive heart failure and a stroke two weeks ago after TMZ broke the news.

"This is not the way I wanted it to come out," NeNe said on social media. "We wanted to be able to talk about it ourselves when Brentt was in a better place, (but) I would rather the correct thing be out there than something that's not correct."

"Two weeks ago today, Brentt had congestive heart failure and a stroke. He's only 23 so he's really young for something like that to happen to him. … It was very scary," the RHOA alum continued. "I don't even want to go into details of what happened and how I found out and what condition he was in."

After FaceTiming Brentt this morning, NeNe said her youngest was "in good spirits" but "struggling with speaking."

"I'm just baffled. It's a lot," she added. "So just keep praying and I will speak to you guys whenever I can. Again, he has shown some improvement and we're really happy and blessed for that."

The former RHOA star opened up about her son's medical status after TMZ reported Monday that Brentt had a long road to recovery ahead of him following the scare.

According to TMZ, Brentt was transported to a local hospital where stayed for several days after suffering the heart attack and stroke.

His medical scare comes after his father and NeNe's husband, Gregg Leakes, died last year following a long-fought battle with cancer.

NeNe said on Monday that Brentt doesn't drink or do drugs, so his heart failure came as a shock.

The 23-year-old's doctors are continuing to run a number of tests to determine what caused the stroke, including tests for HIV, NeNe shared.
